Unexpected Productions is Seattle’s longest-running improv theater, and we’re looking for passionate, engaged individuals to join our Board of Directors. As a working board, we seek members who are not only enthusiastic about improv and the arts but also eager to roll up their sleeves and contribute to the theater’s growth and success.
What’s Involved?
Board members serve a two-year (2) term, dedicating approximately 1 to 3 hours per week to Unexpected Productions-related business. Here’s what you can expect:
- Attend Quarterly Board Meetings & Annual Planning Sessions
- Meetings are held in-person quarterly (currently on Tuesday nights).
- One annual strategic planning session to align on long-term goals.
- Virtual attendance may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Join a Committee & Support Key Initiatives
Board members actively participate in ad hoc projects and serve on at least one committee. Committees typically meet monthly to focus on priority initiatives.
Example Committees:
Executive Committee (by nomination/election) Governance/Audit Board Development/Recruitment UP Outreach/Development
- Be an Advocate for Unexpected Productions
- Help promote our shows, educational programs, and outreach efforts.
- Encourage family, friends, and associates to attend shows or take classes.
- Receive business cards to facilitate networking and strategic relationships.
- Attend shows and events when possible (suggested at least once per quarter). Check out our website at https://www.unexpectedproductions.org/
- Make an Annual Financial Contribution
Each board member is expected to make an annual monetary donation to Unexpected Productions at a level they consider generous based on their means.
- Grow as a Leader
- Participate in Board Leadership training (if needed, based on experience).
- Training is covered by Unexpected Productions to help you succeed in your role.
