Unexpected Productions Spring Spanish Language Improv Class

By February 19, 2020The Improv School

SEATTLE, 02/20/20 – Unexpected Productions is offering a Spanish language improv class this Spring. Introducción a la Improvisación en Español starts on Thursday, March 26 and will go for eight Thursdays from 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM.

“A major tenant of improv is inclusion. We are growing and changing and look forward to growing this class. We are excited to announce our 2nd Improv for Spanish Speakers Intro to Improv Class starting Spring Quarter, March 26th, Thursday nights at our Georgetown location. This is the second time Unexpected Productions has offered a Spanish Improv class and I think that it is the first Spanish language improv class to be offered in the city. This course is designed for individuals who are fluent in Spanish.” explains Unexpected Productions Education Director, Jill Farris.

“The simple rules of improv attract a pretty, cool group of students who agree that being in the moment, listening with your heart, saying yes to what you are presented with and making your scene partner look good, not only make for great improvised scenes, but a great approach to learning and being a student. The idea of being available to each other in a way that is present, supportive and expecting to say yes to what we discover in each other is a profound pursuit. We are pleased to now facilitate this journey for students who speak Spanish as their first language,” said Farris.

The class will be taught by Unexpected Productions ensemble member, Laila Valencia. Valencia was born and raised in Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico, where she taught improv last summer. She always had an interest in the performing arts and participated in several projects of contemporary theater and dance at the UDG, in the late 90s. She has studied with teachers such as Keith Johnstone creator of TheaterSports, Gorilla and Maestro improv shows, and with Randy Dixon, Artistic Director of Unexpected Productions.
